The Risks

There are four main risks involved when connecting to the Internet:

  1. bad traffic directed at your computer (e.g., hackers, intruders, worms, etc.),
  2. bad programs (“malware”) that can get installed on your computer against your wishes (e.g., viruses, trojans, spyware),
  3. confidence tricks, where bad guys attempt to gain your confidence to perform a swindle or fraud
  4. Internet predators, who are usually adults seeking to exploit children and (mostly) teens. They can “groom” and seduce their victims over a long period of time, developing harmful sexual relationships

The Net Safety Guide describes news and tips to protect you against bad traffic, bad programs, confidence tricks, and predators.
