The Risks
There are four main risks involved when connecting to the Internet:
- bad traffic directed at your computer (e.g., hackers, intruders, worms, etc.),
- bad programs (“malware”) that can get installed on your computer against your wishes (e.g., viruses, trojans, spyware),
- confidence tricks, where bad guys attempt to gain your confidence to perform a swindle or fraud
- Internet predators, who are usually adults seeking to exploit children and (mostly) teens. They can “groom” and seduce their victims over a long period of time, developing harmful sexual relationships
The Net Safety Guide describes news and tips to protect you against bad traffic, bad programs, confidence tricks, and predators.
